The 2017 Gut Oggau 'Joschuari' Rot is a charismatic and complex red wine from Austria, made from 40-year-old Blaufränkisch vines grown on limestone and slate soils. This wine reflects Joschuari’s place in Gut Oggau’s fictional family tree: the son of Mechtild and Bertholdi, brother to Emmeram and Timotheus, and husband to Wiltrude. Known for his style, dry humor, and quick wit, Joschuari’s bold yet refined personality is mirrored in this distinctive vintage.
Crafted with care, the grapes are hand-harvested and partly fermented on the skins in wooden and concrete vats, before aging in wooden barrels. The result is a wine of great depth and character, with a complex interplay of fruit, structure, and minerality that speaks to its unique terroir.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of dark berries, earthy spices, and a hint of smoke lead to a richly textured palate with layers of black fruit, savory herbs, and a mineral-driven finish. Balanced with fine tannins and a vibrant acidity, this wine is as sophisticated as it is charismatic.
