The name of the wine comes from one of winemaker Craig Hawkins' favourite musicians, Thomas Mapfumo from Zimbabwe, whose first band was called the "Hallelujah Chicken Run." The wine is made from Viognier grapes sourced from a small vineyard planted in 2001. The winemaking process is natural, with the grapes being hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed into old French oak casks for fermentation. It undergoes full malolactic fermentation, and is bottled with minimal intervention.
